Tarot and Astrology

according to Ivan Kelly, quoted in 'skepdic' - "Astrology has no relevance to understanding ourselves, or our place in the cosmos. Modern advocates of astrology cannot account for the underlying basis of astrological associations with terrestrial affairs, have no plausible explanation for its claims, and have not contributed anything of cognitive value to any field of the social sciences" - Does Astrology have a certain something, or is it just entertainment?

The astrological readings I have seen, and one was done for a king who died over 500 years ago, have been surprisingly accurate in every way. With the king, using hindsight, you can see how accurate it is. It has great relevance to today's world. I work with a Mayan priest-king, they used their own form of astrology to predict, to calculate and to do divination. It is a tradition that is thousands of years old and that shows how much relevance it has to our lives, surely, or it would have long since died out.

Most cultures have produced some form of astrology, generally developed from a system for measuring time. The Mayan calendars are fantastically intricate - graphically reminiscent of the double helix of DNA - and involve a solid mathematical base derived from astronomical observations and measurements. Trained as a social anthropologist, what fascinates me is the way that all major astrological systems have further developed as ways to understand and classify human character and behaviour, and the way they have persisted, becoming an intrinsic part of social identity and popular culture. Rolling up mythologies and recording centuries of sociological observation, astrological systems don't require our belief but deserve our admiration.

I asked my Mayan guide about this, he simply laughed. I have known for some time that the whole 'end of the world' thing is a myth. A quick search on the Internet, two or three sites, shows differeing opinions, with the 'end of the world' believers busy with their rhetoric. In truth, the calendar ends, and then begins again, as our car odometer does when it reaches the ultimate 9999999999 or whatever. A complex calendar such as theirs, two wheels interlocking, one smaller than the other, obviously has a 'cut off' date where the standard Western calendar just goes on and on. For Mayans, it seems to be that they will 'start again' ; just about the biggest New Year you could have. I am fully aware I am channelling this, as I have done little to no research on it. I know my Mayan life, I know the role I played, the clothes I wore, the many headdresses my guide had for ceremonial occasions, I give readings using an ancient Mayan method, I have visited (in meditation and astral travel) the home we shared back then. Without touching a book I know a good deal about the Mayan culture through this wise and loving man. We have not touched on 2012, which shows it has little to no part to play in our lives at this time.

Thank you Dorothy

The reason of asking this question was not based on a worry about future, but purely was an interest.

It seems that you do have extensive experience in meditation, astral travel etc.

I must say, I have had far too many experiences similar to yours, astral travel, predicted deaths, saved lives, gave advice and guidance with the help of spiritual world and my guide, the monk. The knowledge and experience that I have gained made me stronger and wiser person today.

2012 is not an issue for me but today. What I can do today to get the best of it!!
